Recently, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved the establishment of a Technical Committee for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage (ISO/TC 349). The secretariat of the Technical Committee is located in China.
International standards are an important technical basis for the development of global economic and trade cooperation. As the largest and most authoritative comprehensive international standards body, ISO has developed standards that are widely used around the world. ISO/TC 349, which currently has 28 participating member States and 13 observing member States, aims to further build a global consensus on the protection of cultural heritage through the international standardization of terminology, technology, materials and equipment in the monitoring, assessment, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. We should give full play to the important role of standards in promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations and promoting common values of mankind, share advanced and applicable technologies and best practices in the protection of cultural heritage, and jointly enhance our ability to meet severe challenges in the protection of cultural heritage.
Cultural heritage is the witness of human civilization and contains precious historical, artistic and scientific values. China is an ancient civilization with a history of more than 5,000 years. Its cultural heritage carries a splendid civilization, inherits history and culture, and is also a golden business card to showcase China's image and let the world understand China. As a member of the Secretariat of the Technical Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the International Organization for Standardization, China will contribute its strength to promoting the sustainable development of global cultural heritage protection, strengthening international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, and promoting exchanges and mutual learning among global civilizations.
